The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) and Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) suspended nominations for the Washington Scholars program effective fall 2015, beginning with the graduating class of 2016. WSAC and AWSP believe the program was intended to provide a merit scholarship to encourage our distinguished scholars to attend postsecondary institutions in Washington. Without the scholarship component, the organizations have suspended the selection process.

Enacted in 1981, the Washington Scholars program recognized high-achieving students, from among the top one percent of their graduating class, who distinguished themselves through academic excellence, leadership, and community service. The program awarded a college scholarship to recipients until 2010, when monetary benefits for new awardees were suspended. Students recognized between 2010 and fall 2015 received honorary recognition certificates without the benefit of a monetary scholarship.

Previously-Selected Recipients

Washington Scholars awarded in spring 2010 or earlier who still have unused capacity for the monetary benefit, and who have continued to meet other eligibility requirements, may receive the scholarship for undergraduate-level coursework if program funds are available. These eligible recipients may use their scholarship at a participating public or private college or university in the state of Washington.

Please direct any questions regarding student eligibility or current funding availability to Ann Voyles, program associate, using the contact information below.
